UNIFORM DIVISION COMMANDER - John Burks
Captain John Burks is the Uniform Division commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 27 years. He was promoted to Captain in 2008. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Sergeant in both Patrol and the Detective Bureau, and Lieutenant. Captain Burks holds a Master's degree from Chapman University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 251. The members of the Uniform Division are responsible for providing front line law enforcement services throughout Brea. INVESTIGATION DIVISION COMMANDER - Gregg Hayden
Captain Gregg Hayden is the Investigation Division commander and is a 27-year veteran of the Brea Police Department. Captain Hayden has held many different positions throughout his career including assignments as both a detective and an investigation supervisor. He holds both Bachelor and Master's degrees from Cal State Fullerton and Chapman University, respectively. Captain Hayden provides oversight for all investigative efforts such as the Detective Bureau and the Crime Suppression Unit. Members of the Investigative Division also include Crime Scene Investigation, Property & Evidence, Crime Analysis, and the Records staff.
Lieutenant John Hoetker is the East Area Commander. Lieutenant Hoetker has been with the Brea Police Department for 17 years, and has worked in law enforcement for 29 years. The East Area is the largest patrol area geographically in the city. The east command encompasses nearly all area east of the 57 freeway and includes Carbon Canyon, the Blackstone development, Wildcatters Park, the Brea Sports Park, and the large retail corridor on Imperial Highway with stores that include Walmart, Nordstrom Rack, and Albertson’s Grocery.
WEST AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Tim Mercado is the West Area Commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 28 years. The West Area Command encompasses both residential and commercial properties. The boundaries include Brea Boulevard to the east, Imperial Highway to the south, and the city limits to the north and west.
CENTRAL AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Dave Dickinson is the Central Area Commander and is a 27-year veteran of the Brea Police Department. The Central Area Command is defined geographically by the 57 freeway to the east, the Brea Downtown to the west, Imperial Highway to the south, and the Rails to Trails to the north. This area includes much of our central retail core including the Brea Mall and the Brea Downtown.
SOUTH AREA COMMAND
Lieutenant Kelly Carpenter is the South Area Commander and has been with the Brea Police Department for 27 years. The South Area includes both residential and business/retail centers. This command area includes all areas south of Imperial Highway and east to the 57 Freeway. The South area also includes areas west of Brea Blvd. (except the Brea Downtown) and south of Lambert to the western city boundary.
